About this event
BUILD welcomes you!
Membership Mingle – Thursday July 22 @ 12pm
Join us for an interactive discussion on the C.R.O.W.N Act. C.R.O.W.N=Creating a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair
Race-based hair discrimination is a prejudice that stems from a Eurocentric beauty standard. The CROWN act prohibits this type of discrimination, denial of employment, and or educational opportunities because of hair texture, protective hairstyle, or hair coverings. In March 2020 Governor Jay Inslee signed HB 2602 to prevent hair discrimination in Washington State. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Melanie Morgan (D-Parkland), amended the definition of racial discrimination to include discrimination based on hair texture or protective coverings. July 3 has been declared National CROWN Day (#passthecrown). Save the date and plan to celebrate Black Hair Independence!
