Gov Inslee Declares Aug 26, 2023 Women’s Equality Day

Gov. Jay Inslee has declared Aug. 26, 2023 as Women's Equality Day!

Read the full text:

WHEREAS, recognizing Women’s Equality Day as a day of celebration through the country that emphasizes the importance of women’s work for democracy; and  

 

WHEREAS, women/womxn in the Unites States have continuously worked to gain full rights and privileges – public or private, legal or intuitional – as citizens of the United States; and  

 

WHEREAS, the 19th Amendment provides that the right of citizens of the Unites States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any sate on the account of sex; and  

WHEREAS, Congress has designated August 26, the Nineteenth Amendment was certified as Women’s Equality Day; and  

WHEREAS, women/womxn continue to fight against laws that disenfranchise Black, Indigenous, women/womxn of color, women/womxn living in poverty and women/womxn with disabilities; and 

WHEREAS, fair pay helps strengthen economic security for Washington’s families, and when Washington’s families prosper, Washington State prospers; and 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jay Inslee, Governor of the state of Washington, do hereby proclaim August 26, 2023, as 

Women’s Equality Day in the state of Washington and I urge all people to join me in this special observance.
