Bill Alert SB 5098

Bill summary.

This bill prohibits weapons at certain park facilities where children are likely to be present, certain state or local public buildings, and county fairs when the fair is open to the public. It requires facilities where weapons are prohibited to, as soon as practicable, post signage at common public access points alerting the public to the prohibitions. There are exemptions for color and honor guard activities and museum exhibits. The bill requires local authorities to identify any such park facility where children are likely to be present themselves, and it defines “state and local building,” “county fair,” and “weapon” as they pertain to the legislation itself, the latter including instruments “commonly used with the intent to cause death or bodily injury”.

As part of its work, the ICSEW Legislative and Policy subcommittee provides Bill Alerts during the current legislative cycle. Its purpose is to inform state employees of pending legislation that may impact them.
