Legislation Update May 26, 2017
As we continue into the next Special Session the Legislative and Policy Subcommittee will continue to provide updates on currently moving bills.
ICSEW encourages each person to let your voice be heard and to be your own advocate. Start by reading through the bills identified below. And on your own time, contact your legislators to share your opinion.
Equal Pay/Employment
HB 1506 Addressing workplace practices to achieve gender pay equity. May 23: By resolution, returned to House Rules Committee for third reading. Moved into 2nd Special Session  
Public Safety and Health
SHB 1155 Making felony sex offenses a crime that may be prosecuted at any time after its commission. May 23: By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status. No Change since last reporting on March 18th.
 Family Medical Leave/Women’s Health
SHB 1434 Adding the use of shared leave for pregnancy disability or for the purposes of parental leave to bond with the employee’s newborn, adoptive, or foster child. May 23: By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status. No Change since last reporting on March 18th.
HB 1796 Providing reasonable accommodations in the workplace for pregnant women. May 23:
By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status. No Change since last reporting on March 18th.

We were tracking HB 1298 which had died, the below bill is a similar item that passed in the legislature and will be law.
EHB 1620
Concerning the Authority of Local Governments to Require Criminal History Background Checks ‐ Authorizes cities, towns, code cities, and counties to require, by ordinance, a federal background check, and without an ordinance, a state background check, of specified individuals. Authorizes cities, towns, code cities, counties and metropolitan park districts (MPDs) to require a background check of specified individuals conducted through a private organization. Expands the categories of individuals subject to a background check as required by a MPD. Requires a city, town, code city, county or MPD to pay the costs of background checks.
